Want to be a better writer? Search on “100-word stories.” It’s a thing.

Good writers “write tight”: are concise, clear, and interesting - without boring fluff.

Open to a blank page in a very small notebook. Pick a topic. Write. Stop at the bottom.

Count your words:

  • Over 100? Are there words that are repetitive, add no value, don’t fit? Eliminate them.

  • Under 100? Are there descriptive, sensory, or emotional words you can add, a thought, a reaction? Something that creates a clearer or more intriguing mental picture?

Revise until you land on 100.

Choose your words carefully.
